This piece was a failure, so I thought. The power went out during the creation and I lost my groove. I was upset about ruining it. So I left it alone for a day, and when I came back to it I felt less attached. So I said fuck it, it’s ruined, might as well just play.
And then something miraculously ordinary happened. I didn’t have anything on it. I was able to be brave without fear of failure. This beautiful transformation occurred on my canvas. And even better, I didn’t ‘do’ it.
Reflecting on this experience makes me feel tender. My personal responsibility for the outcome was only getting in my way. Letting that go, surrendering to the energy behind life like that feels deliciously natural. Like Home.
And guess what? There are no mistakes.
